NEW YORK STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE

NEW YORK CITY, NY  USA

< Back to Portfolio

In 1993, the New York Psychiatric Institute was in search of creating a new replacement facility that would compliment their innovative research and work in direct relationship with Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital and the Kolb Research Center. The Institute itself is one of the oldest psychiatric facilities in the United States, funded by the State of New York, and was the leading institute in such areas as schizophrenia, substance abuse, behavioral aspects of HIV, and anxiety disorders.

Our goal was to provide a new facility to stage this premiere institute, giving it a progressive presence, and allowing it to continue its innovative success in research and treatment.  Located on the edge of the Hudson River, the design emphasized movement, connection, and stability in each of its programmed areas, creating innovative healing and learning environments to serve its very complex clientele and their unique conditions.
