HKMZ BOUNDARY CROSSING FACILITY

An international design ideas competition was created to help find creative solutions for the unique border conditions between the Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai communities.  This crossing station was to accommodate both long and short-term transition of people coming by air, sea, or land, and was to handle the complex functions related to international traveling and security controls.

The solution was built upon the free movement of people coming in and leaving, while keeping populations separate, but visually connected.  This design created a transparent and constant flow of people and the spirit of traveling to a new and exciting destination.  It captures the natural elements of its unique location as well as the vibrant cultures that cross its path each day.
