As China extends intentions to provide the world’s best in blended eastern/western medicine, more projects are being developed to support this in regions throughout the country.  The Nanshan People’s Hospital competition project came from the need of such a facility in the Guangdong Province city of Shenzhen.  The goals were to work within the existing healthcare campus, providing the diverse level of medical program required for this community.

 

The design approach embraces the challenges of growth and inclusion of western standards of medicine and practice, showcasing dramatic volumes and spaces to bring natural elements into the healing environments.  Although our design was not selected for the award, the client noted that our level of understanding of their program needs and the contemporary solution to their problem of growth and service, aligned perfectly with all of their hopes and expectations set forth in the competition.
